It’s time to calm down with a visual visit to a favorite scene as it enters another August without being invaded by ugly luxury charter yachts or cruise ships. Yes, this is beautiful Blue Hill Bay at the base of Blue Hill in the Town of Blue Hill. The area’s founders seem to have had a fixation issue.

The geographic phenomenon that started all this is not quite 1000 feet high, the required height for being a mountain when it was named Blue Hill. But that rule has been eliminated to allow local people to judge whether they’re living in the shadow of a hill or a mountain. And, of course, some would prefer to be called mountain people rather than hill people. They want to call Blue Hill a mountain, but keep the historic name – as in Blue Hill Mountain.

Seems to me to be self-contradictory, like describing your small daughter as a child adult. But then, I think that I’m a hill person at heart and the area will remain beautiful no matter what we call it –unless invaded by luxury charter yachts or cruise ships, which we’re trying to forget by looking at this image.
